What is the company guidelines for Under Keel Clearance (UKC) for this vessel? |
1.1 At berth
An UKC of 0.30 m or an allowance for 1.5% of the Vessels Breadth, whichever is greater, must be
maintained.
As soon as possible after berthing, hand lead soundings, in addition to echo-sounder data, should be
taken around the vessel to confirm the depth alongside (unless Master determines by other means that
sufficient / safe UKC above the company minimum UKC limits is available).
** All vessels must consider effects of current on UKC for berths situated on rivers or in areas affected by
tidal currents.
1.2 Navigating in Port, on rivers and canals, or at anchor or at an SBM/CBM situated within protected harbor
areas where depths are controlled / monitored by local authorities
The UKC must never be less than 0.60 m or 1.5% of Vessels Breadth whichever is greater.
** If the master is in doubt whether the area of navigation falls under paragraphs 1.2 or 1.3 of this section,
1.3 will apply.
1.3 Approaches, Anchorages, Fairways, Channels and SBM/CBM outside harbor areas
Minimum UKC of 0.90 m or allowance of 3 degrees of list, whichever is greater.
** If the master is in doubt whether the area of navigation falls under paragraphs 1.2 or 1.3 of this section,
1.3 will apply.
1.4 At Sea
On ocean passages/open coastal waters within 50 m depth contour, minimum UKC of 50% of the static
draft must be maintained;
On ocean passages the vessel must be kept in depths greater than 50 m and clear of any localized
shallow water areas.
?** The echo sounder, including its recording unit, must be switched ON whenever the vessel is
navigating in waters with depths less than 50 m. Echo Sounder Alarm should be set to warn the
Navigator well in advance of entering the area where the Vessel is just about to have a minimum
under keel clearance as anticipated (echo sounder alarm settings in accordance (and in excess) to
the applicable UKC value).
?Performance of the echo sounder should be tested on all ranges and scales to verify recordings
against depths shown on the chart. Commencement and stopping of the echo sounder tests should
be marked on the echo sounder paper with date, starting and finishing time. If echo sounder is not
provided with printer device and is only electronic and data is recorded in memory, then appropriate
records should be written in the deck log book, bridge moment book and as above. |
